DIY: Wood Projects using Pentacryl
There are many great craft and party projects created using green wood. However, preventing untreated green wood from cracking as it dries can be challenging.
Pentacryl was developed to meet this challenge. It is a stabilizer that will alleviate the cracking, checking and irregular drying in green wood.
Pentacryl is a safe, easy-to-use product for “Do It Yourself” DIY projects.
Wood Cookies and More
Once these cross-cut pieces or wood “cookies” are cut, they should be treated right away as this type of cut has the most tension in it, especially the larger diameter pieces. For additional information on treating these rustic wood items, see the Step by Step Guide on our website.
Even though Pentacryl will speed the drying by 30% since it is displacing the water in the wood, green wood needs to dry slowly. So be sure to allow enough dry time for your wood pieces prior to the wedding or party date. Depending on the size and type of wood, it may take 2 to 5 months. Once your wood is completely dry, it can be sanded, stained, woodburned, glued and/or sealed.
